Growing up I would go arrowhead hunting in the fields of rural Marengo County Alabama with my father.  This sparked my interest in archaeology at an early age, provoking me to question the origins and purpose of everything I had found. Consequently, my parents took me to a place that continues to inspire, Moundville Archaeological Park.  One of the most important historical sights in Alabama. The core of my recent work is ancient civilizations, seeking connections across cultures. The works attempt to render these connections as well as their mysterious signs and symbols, primarily the Mesoamerican and Native American/Mississippian Cultures.  I explore images that were created during these periods, creating different interpretations which employ multiple traditional prints styles.  The majority of these styles are relief and stone lithography prints.  Through these images I intend to offer a new interpretation in which they are revised and reinterpreted, contemplating their meaning within a modern context.  Recently, my objective has been to visit different historical sights, recording images from museums and galleries, increasing my understanding of these puzzling cultures and bring to light much of which still lies hidden to the casual observer. My belief is that these images and histories are still significant, and my goal is to better understand what Joseph Campbell referred to as the “mythic Image”.
